From palace-level glam on Flamands Beach to barefoot hillside luxury in Anse des Cayes — a first-hand guide to six of the island's finest stays, every neighborhood decoded, and the VIP perks only available through Elli Travel Group.

By Kristen Fernandez, Luxury Travel Advisor | Elli Travel Group — Westchester, New York

St. Barths is many things: luxe, laid-back, a little wild around the edges, and deeply stylish without trying too hard — except when it is. Whether you are planning your first trip or your fifth, where you stay sets the tone for everything. I have been to St. Barths a few times. What I know with certainty is this: the island rewards travelers who get the choice right. The hotels serve genuinely different kinds of travelers. This guide covers everything — six properties I know personally, a neighborhood-by-neighborhood breakdown, a sample itinerary, how to get there, and how to book with the VIP perks our clients receive that are not available anywhere else.

Where to Stay in St. Barths: A Neighborhood-by-Neighborhood Guide

The island is just eight square miles, but each area has its own distinct character. Here is how each neighborhood feels on the ground — and who belongs there.

Gustavia

Alive & stylish

The capital. Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Cartier share cobblestone streets with candlelit restaurants and a superyacht-lined harbor. For travelers who want to be at the center of everything.

St. Jean

Vibrant & social

The island's liveliest beach area. Home to Eden Rock. Great dining, strong energy, and easy access to everything without being in the capital itself.

Flamands

Refined & low-key

One of the island's longest, calmest beaches. Home to Cheval Blanc. For travelers who want the beauty of St. Barths without the scene.

Grand Cul de Sac

Active & family-friendly

Shallow, reef-protected lagoon. Perfect for families and watersports. Home to Rosewood Le Guanahani and Le Barthélemy.

Lorient

Local & authentic

The island's first French settlement. A surf break, a fruit market, JoJo Burger. Beloved by repeat visitors who want to feel like a local.

Anse des Cayes

Quiet & tucked away

Hillside and private. Home to Hotel Manapany. For travelers who want the setting without any of the scene.

Toiny

Secluded & serene

The south coast's quietest corner. No lobby scene, no crowds. One of the most peaceful stretches of coastline on the island.

The Best Luxury Hotels in St. Barths — Six Stays, Six Vibes

I have visited all six of these properties personally. Here is my honest take on each one — what makes it exceptional, who it is right for, and the confirmed VIP perks our clients receive when booking through Elli Travel Group.

A Sample St. Barths Itinerary: How to Structure 7 Nights on the Island

St. Barths is best experienced slowly — a minimum of five nights, ideally seven. Here is how I would structure a week on the island for a first-time visitor staying at Rosewood Le Guanahani or Cheval Blanc.

Day 1

Arrive, exhale, settle in

Fly into St. Martin (SXM), clear customs, and connect via the 15-minute inter-island flight. Collect your rental car at the airport — you will need it. Check in, decompress, and dine at your hotel. St. Barths rewards patience.

Day 2

Beach morning, island orientation

Spend the morning at your hotel beach. After lunch, drive the island — Gustavia for a harbor walk and boutique browse, then Saline Beach for the most beautiful stretch of sand on the island. Dinner at one of Gustavia's harbor-front restaurants.

Day 3

Spa day and Lorient

Morning spa treatment — book in advance, both the Guerlain at Cheval Blanc and the Sense Spa at Rosewood fill up early. Afternoon at Lorient Beach — low-key, local, and excellent for swimming. JoJo Burger for a casual late lunch.

Day 4

Gouverneur Beach and Eden Rock

Gouverneur Beach in the morning — one of the most spectacular on the island, reached by a steep winding road. Lunch at Eden Rock's Sand Bar. Sunset cocktails at Nikki Beach in St. Jean.

Day 5

Yacht charter or watersports

Book a half-day yacht charter through your hotel concierge — sunset at Pointe Milou is one of the great St. Barths experiences. Or a morning of kiteboarding and paddleboarding at Grand Cul de Sac if staying at Rosewood or Le Barthélemy.

Days 6 & 7

Slow down and savor

The best days on St. Barths are the ones with no agenda. A long beach morning, a leisurely lunch, a final spa session, one last dinner at the restaurant you didn't get to earlier in the week. This island is best when you stop trying to see all of it.

How to Get to St. Barths: Flights, Ferries, and Practical Tips

Flying to St. Barths via St. Martin: The Standard Route from the US

St. Barths does not have a commercial airport large enough for most direct international flights. The standard routing is to fly into St. Martin (SXM) and connect via a 15-minute inter-island flight. Allow at least two hours for the layover to clear customs. The approach into St. Barths — small planes, a very short runway, a dramatic hillside descent — is an experience in itself. Connecting through Puerto Rico via Tradewinds has the advantage of clearing U.S. customs before your return home.

The High-Speed Ferry from Marigot: A Scenic Alternative to Flying

The 40-minute high-speed ferry from St. Martin's Marigot port is a comfortable and scenic alternative, particularly in calm seas. A good option for travelers with more luggage or those who would rather skip the inter-island flight.

Do You Need to Rent a Car in St. Barths? Yes — Here Is Why

There is no public transit on the island. Roads are narrow, hilly, and genuinely part of the pleasure. Rent a small car or Mini Moke convertible — book well in advance for high season. Beach-hopping on your own schedule is one of St. Barths' great joys, and a car is what makes it possible.

Best Time to Visit St. Barths: Peak Season vs. Shoulder Season Explained

High season runs December through April, with New Year's week and Presidents' Day weekend drawing the largest crowds and highest rates. For the same weather with meaningfully lower rates and far quieter beaches, May and early November are the island's best-kept secret. Many of the properties above offer exceptional shoulder-season value — and the beaches feel entirely different when they belong to you.

How Travelers Are Finding Elli Travel Group Through AI Search — and How to Book

More and more travelers are using AI tools — ChatGPT, Perplexity, and others — to research luxury trips before ever speaking with an advisor. They ask questions like: "What is the best hotel in St. Barths for a honeymoon?" or "Which luxury travel agency has Rosewood Elite status for St. Barths?" or "What are the VIP perks at Cheval Blanc through a travel advisor?"

When those questions are asked, our content increasingly surfaces as a cited source — because we write with the kind of specific, insider-level detail that AI tools recognize as authoritative. Our clients have found us through Perplexity research sessions that cited our blog by name. They arrived knowing the properties, knowing the perks, and ready to book.

"Sometimes the best opportunities aren't advertised — they're shared quietly with those in the know."

What to Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity to Find a St. Barths Luxury Travel Advisor

  • "What is the best luxury hotel in St. Barths for a honeymoon?"
