Rosewood Mandarina Review: Inside Mexico’s Most Exciting New Luxury Resort

Rosewood Mandarina is one of the most talked-about new luxury resorts in Mexico, and after staying just weeks after its May opening, it’s easy to see why. Located in Nayarit—about one hour north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR)—this ultra-secluded Rosewood resort feels like a destination entirely unto itself. Set among jungle-covered hills, pineapple fields, and a mile-long Pacific beach, Rosewood Mandarina is quickly emerging as the next “it” resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

A Landscape of Three Distinct Worlds

Rosewood Mandarina is thoughtfully designed across three distinct areas, each offering a different experience depending on travel style and mobility needs.

  • The Flatlands which is closest to the main pools, beach, spa, and restaurants. Perfectly level, it’s ideal for families who want to zip between activities on complimentary bikes (even kids-size bikes!).

  • The Mountain is perched on steep hills with panoramic Pacific views. Remote, quiet, and romantic, it is best suited for couples or honeymooners who don’t mind relying on golf carts for transport...or who want to get their steps in and their glutes working.

  • The Beach area is steps from the sand, where the sound of crashing waves becomes the soundtrack to your stay.

Premier Beachfront Suite Review at Rosewood Mandarina

We stayed in Premier Beachfront Suite 127 at Rosewood Mandarina, a one-bedroom suite that feels more like a private villa than a traditional hotel room. It is 2,000 square feet of airy, indoor-outdoor luxury. A massive living room, an even more massive bathroom (soaking tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and closets galore), and best of all...a private infinity plunge pool perched just 100 feet from the ocean.

From the deck, it truly feels like you have the entire beach to yourself. The waves break so close you could fall asleep to their rhythm...and we did.

Even the entry-level suites, located in The Flatlands, are impressively large and beautifully appointed, with double vanities and thoughtful layouts designed for easy access to everything.

Dining at Rosewood Mandarina: Restaurants & Culinary Experiences

Dining at Rosewood Mandarina is deeply connected to local culture, ingredients, and ritual, with two standout restaurants on property.

  • La Cocina is their open-kitchen hub of the resort, features a Comal open hearth and offers guacamole, tortilla, and full cooking classes.

  • Toppu is their hillside Japanese fine-dining restaurant that brings a surprising level of sophistication along with curated sake experiences.

Family Fun & Big Adventures

Families will love the Explorers Kids Club, but the activity menu is vast enough for every age. The resort shares an impressive equestrian center and polo grounds (pictured below) with One&Only Mandarina, complete with polo matches. There’s also a bunch more activities:

  • Tennis, pickleball, and basketball

  • Ziplining

  • 10-hole par-3 course, with each hole inspired by iconic fairways around the world

  • Archery

  • And a huge, mile-long swimmable beach

Where Sunsets Become Events

Rosewood Mandarina's location is so unique and mesmerizing because the sun rises over the Sierra Madre mountains and sinks into the Pacific each night. For something unforgettable, head to Peñasco Bar which is dramatically perched above the sea. It's perhaps the most romantic spot on the property and practically made for engagement proposals.

Bigger Groups will Love Cora Villa

If you’re traveling with extended family or friends, the Cora Villa is an extraordinary 4-bedroom mountaintop estate with sunset views, an oversized soaking tub facing the mountains, indoor/outdoor showers, a gym, and a media room.

A Sanctuary Wrapped in Nature

Mornings here are incredibly tranquil and you will be in heaven with waves crashing, birds calling from the estuary, and the feeling that you’re suspended above nature itself. The fitness center is large and modern, conveniently located next to the serene spa for a post-workout unwind.
