The Advisor Behind This Review

“This is a resort where the whole family can enjoy the vacation differently, and where couples can feel the energy of a resort when they want it.”

A Resort Designed for Families and Couples

A classic luxury beach resort built around families, with the energy and social spaces that make it just as good for couples.

Some luxury resorts are best suited to couples seeking a quiet escape. Others are designed around families, with activities for every age and enough space for everyone to spend the day their own way. After my firsthand visit on October 19, 2026, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita reads as a resort that does both. It is a very family-friendly resort, and it is also one where couples can find real energy.

For Families

The family amenities are the foundation. There are three pool experiences, two beaches, water sports, the Kids For All Seasons program, a game room, and The Container, a teen space with its own sports court. Children of different ages can each spend the day differently, and teenagers get some independence. Connecting accommodations can be arranged at booking, so parents and kids can have their own space while staying close. That is often what makes a family trip work.

“This is a resort where the whole family can enjoy the vacation differently, and that is often what makes a great family trip truly successful.”  — Juan Fernandez

For Couples Who Want Some Energy

What keeps it from being only a family resort is how the social spaces are designed. Four Seasons has created places where guests can spend time with their own family and, just as easily, cross paths with other guests. Couples can feel the energy of a lively resort and the ease of those natural, unforced interactions.

The clearest examples are the adults-only pool, the swim-up bar in the lazy river, and the ocean-view bars throughout the resort. Tamai is a beautiful adult pool. The lazy river and its swim-up bar add a social, easygoing energy. The bars give couples places to sit with the Pacific in front of them. It suits couples who want a little more energy on their time away, and who want to find it at the resort.

The resort sits within the Punta Mita community on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Per Four Seasons’ published hotel facts, it has 177 guest rooms and suites (139 rooms and 38 suites). On my visit I covered the arrival, the accommodations, both beaches, all three pool experiences, the kids’ and teen spaces, the gym and spa, the dining venues and the golf facilities.

Here is what I found, area by area, including the details worth confirming before you book. It starts at the front door.

Arrival: A Welcome Overlooking the Ocean

The experience begins in an open lobby that looks out over the ocean. Service starts the moment you arrive: the welcome is warm and attentive, and guests are offered a welcome amenity with an alcoholic or non-alcoholic option to enjoy while they settle in.

“It is the kind of arrival that makes you feel you have reached your destination and can finally relax.”  — Juan Fernandez

Rooms and Suites: Spread Across a Lush Landscape

What I like most about the layout is that it doesn’t feel like one large hotel building. The 177 rooms and suites are distributed across individual buildings set in a green, landscaped property, and many have ocean views. The result feels more residential and secluded, while the main amenities, beaches and pools stay accessible.

Inside the Room: Soft, Calm and Easy to Settle Into

I stayed in Room 828, an ocean-view room on the second floor of the Pez building. Two buildings sit in front of it, but from the second floor the views of the Pacific were unobstructed. The room was comfortable, and the soft decor and palette are what made it feel that way. It is a calm space rather than a showy one.

Four Seasons describes the design as contemporary Mexican, with “subtle colours, natural materials, soft textures, and bespoke Mexican handcrafts” and native Huichol craftsmanship. That matches what I saw: nothing in the room competes with the view.

The Terrace: Where You Will Spend Your Time

The outdoor space was my favorite part of the room. Ours had a table and a very comfortable couch arranged to face the Pacific, which makes it a real living space rather than a spot you pass through on the way to the pool. Four Seasons’ 2019 redesign gave the guest rooms redesigned private terraces, and the reason is clear once you sit on one.

“The outdoor space was a place to sit with the Pacific in front of you, and I would have been happy to stay there all afternoon.”  — Juan Fernandez

A note on views, because the terms matter when you book. “Ocean view” does not mean the same thing in every building, and some views are partial or angled. Mine was clear because of the floor and the position relative to the buildings in front. Which room category and which building you land in changes the outlook, so tell us what matters most and we will work toward it with the resort. Room locations within a category can’t be guaranteed.

Who it suits: I think this is a strong resort for families and couples who want the energy of a full resort, with pools, beaches and dining close by, but who still want to retreat to a calm room at the end of the day.

For families, connecting accommodations are the detail to plan around. They can be arranged at the time of booking, and they make a real difference for parents traveling with younger children or teenagers who want their own space while staying close. Which room categories connect, and in what configurations, is something to settle with us before you book rather than at check-in.

Two Beaches, Two Different Experiences

The resort has two principal beaches, Manzanilla and Cuevas, and they suit different moods.

Manzanilla Beach: Activities for the Whole Family

Manzanilla is the natural hub for guests who want to spend their day in and around the water. It sits beside the main Nuna Pool, so moving between beach and pool is easy, which is especially practical for families. The water-sports team offers surfing lessons, paddleboarding and kayaking, and an active family can fill a day without leaving the resort.

Beach service was attentive during my visit and the food was very good, with a balance of Mexican specialties and familiar beach favorites. My two standouts were the tacos and the mixed-seafood ceviche, served with totopos and a selection of homemade salsas. Ice cream, ices and ice pops are brought around to guests through the day, a small touch that matters over long hours in the sun.

Cuevas Beach: The Iconic Punta Mita View

Cuevas is where you find the dramatic cliffside scenery that has become synonymous with Four Seasons Punta Mita. It is a striking setting for taking in the Pacific coastline, and I saw plenty of guests snorkeling just offshore. Snorkel equipment is available for families who want to explore the water.

The Three Pools: Something for Every Mood

The resort has three distinct pool experiences, each with its own personality.

Nuna Pool: The Main Family-Friendly Infinity Pool

Sunset from the main infinity pool.

Nuna is the main infinity pool and the resort’s most natural gathering place, with expansive ocean views and strong sunset scenery. It has plenty of loungers, a whirlpool and a hot tub, with easy access to both Manzanilla and Cuevas beaches. Parents can move between pool and beach without organizing the day around one activity, and it is a good spot for lunch, a drink or a long afternoon.

Tamai Pool: A Tranquil Adults-Only Escape

Tamai is the adults-only option, with different pool sections and plenty of loungers and seating. One honest note: it is not directly oceanfront. Its appeal is tranquility, which makes it a good choice after lunch or as a break from the busier family areas. Because the property is so spacious, privacy is easy to find elsewhere too; Tamai simply offers a dedicated adults-only atmosphere.

The Lazy River: A Favorite for Families

The lazy river is most popular later in the afternoon. Guests float along the winding waterway, use the swim-up bar and spend time together in a more playful setting. For families with children and teens, having several distinct pool environments means everyone can find something to enjoy without the resort feeling repetitive.

Kids and Teens: One of the Resort’s Biggest Strengths

Four Seasons Punta Mita recognizes that a nine-year-old and a sixteen-year-old have very different ideas of a great vacation.

“Teenagers often want independence without necessarily wanting to spend the entire vacation with their parents.”  — Juan Fernandez

Kids For All Seasons

Supervised activities for younger guests while parents take time for themselves.

The Kids For All Seasons program gives younger guests a dedicated place for supervised activities while parents take time for the spa, a workout or a quiet hour. Activities can include arts and crafts, games and other creative pursuits, along with indoor entertainment.

The Container: A Space Designed for Teenagers

The Container is a dedicated space where teens can socialize and do their own thing. Four Seasons lists it for ages 13 to 19. Resort staff told me it runs from noon until 8 p.m. and uses an access code for teens. It is unsupervised, so parents should confirm current access arrangements and age policies with the resort. A basketball and sports court in the same area gives active teens another outdoor option.

The Nuna Pool Game Room

Near the main pool, a complimentary game room has arcade games, ping-pong and video-game consoles including Nintendo and PlayStation. No coins are needed. It sounds like a small detail, but a casual indoor space for a break from the sun is useful on a family trip.

Fitness and Wellness: More Than a Typical Resort Gym

The fitness facilities go well beyond the basics. There is an extensive range of cardio equipment, including treadmills and stationary bikes, along with dumbbells, kettlebells, heavier weights, pull-up bars and a boxing bag. Travelers who keep a serious training schedule on the road will find what they need. A dedicated Pilates space offers individual workouts and classes.

The Apuane Spa and Water Circuit

At the Apuane Spa, guests can use the water-circuit facilities without booking a massage or treatment. The circuit includes a cold plunge, indoor whirlpool, sauna and steam room. After a workout it is an easy way to unwind, and it gives adults another quiet option while the rest of the family is busy elsewhere.

Dining: A Range of Options for Different Occasions

Dining runs from beachside tacos to sit-down dinners. Beyond the venues below, in-room dining is available when you would rather stay in. Restaurant schedules and availability can vary, so confirm current offerings before your stay.

Golf: A Major Draw Within Punta Mita

For golfers, the wider Punta Mita community adds another dimension. I toured the golf center, the academy and the driving range, though I did not play a round. The community has two Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole courses, Pacifico and Bahía. Four Seasons describes the third hole on Pacifico, Tail of the Whale, as a natural island hole. Even if golf is not the reason for your trip, it is worth knowing about when planning for a group with mixed interests.

How It Compares: Four Seasons Punta Mita vs. Naviva

Both carry the Four Seasons name and sit in the Punta Mita area, but they solve different trips. Naviva is a small tented retreat with an all-inclusive rate, built around couples and solo travelers. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita is the larger, more varied resort, with the kids’ and teen program that Naviva is not designed around. A traveler who wants an immersive, all-inclusive wellness stay without children should look at Naviva. A family with children of different ages should lean Four Seasons Punta Mita. The trade-off is scale: with 177 rooms and suites, Punta Mita is lively in a way a small tented camp is not.

Our full firsthand Naviva review covers that property in detail.

How It Compares: Four Seasons Punta Mita vs. Susurros del Corazón

Susurros del Corazón, an Auberge Resorts Collection property that opened in 2022, is the boutique alternative: all suites, with four rooms to a building, an à la carte approach and a surf-retreat identity. Its kids club covers ages 5 to 12, so teenagers sit outside it. Four Seasons Punta Mita has the larger menu of activities, the dedicated teen space and the lazy river. Susurros has the barefoot, residential feel and the swimmable, cliff-sheltered surf cove. A family with teens who want their own space should lean Four Seasons Punta Mita; a couple or a family with younger children who prefer a quieter, design-forward property should look at Susurros.

Who Should Stay Here

Families with children of different ages are the clearest fit. Between three pool experiences, two beaches, water sports, a game room, a kids’ program, a teen space and sports courts, there is plenty to keep everyone engaged without leaving the property.

Families with teenagers get the most distinctive advantage here. The Container and the Nuna Pool game room give teens a place of their own, while parents keep the spa, the gym and the quieter pool areas for themselves.

Couples who want a resort with energy are a strong fit. Tamai, the lazy river and its swim-up bar, the ocean-view bars, the Apuane Spa circuit and a serious fitness center give adults plenty to do, and the layout makes privacy easy to find when you want it. Couples who want an intimate, small-scale setting rather than a full resort are better matched to Naviva or Susurros del Corazón.

Golfers and active travelers should note the two Nicklaus-designed courses in the community, plus a gym that supports a real training routine.

Biggest booking mistake: deciding on room configuration after you’ve booked. Connecting accommodations are arranged at the time of booking, so a family with younger children or teens should settle the exact configuration with their advisor first, not at check-in.

Before You Book: Q&A

We have a teenager and a younger child. Will both be happy here?

That is the situation the resort handles best. The younger child has Kids For All Seasons and the lazy river; the teen has The Container, the sports court and the game room. Parents get the spa circuit and Tamai in the gaps.

Should I request connecting rooms?

If you are traveling with younger children or teens who need their own space, yes, and request them at the time of booking. Ask us to confirm which categories connect.

Is The Container supervised?

No. Resort staff told me it is unsupervised, runs from noon to 8 p.m. and uses an access code for teens. Confirm current access arrangements and age policies before you travel.

Is this a good choice for a couples trip without kids?

It can be, with Tamai, the spa circuit and a quiet, spread-out layout. But the resort’s strongest case is family variety. If a smaller, more intimate setting matters most, compare it with Naviva and Susurros del Corazón above.

Will we feel the need to leave the resort?

Not for entertainment. Between the beaches, pools, water sports, game room, gym, spa and nine dining and drink venues, you can fill a full vacation on property.
