Luxury Hotels: Am I Crazy to Drive 14 Hours for My Summer Vacation?

If you love a country club resort setting you will love your vacation at Sea Island...it's like summer camp for families.

Suddenly we will do whatever it takes to enjoy a vacation

It used to be that 4 hours was the absolutely maximum the average American family would consider driving to their summer vacation. Now more regularly, it may take a full day of commercial flight connections criss-crossing the country, so why not drive? Sea Island is located directly on Georgia's Atlantic Coast, somewhat equidistant to Savannah and Jacksonville, FL; about 1 1/4 hours to either city. If you are flying privately, McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport (SSI) is a quick 10-minute drive to The Cloister at Sea Island.

What we love about The Cloister at Sea Island

It's like summer camp for families. What other Forbes Five Star resort offers a chance to play golf in the morning on the course where Mark & Davis Love III grew up playing, meet the kids at the Sea Island Beach Club for lunch and a quick swim, head over to the Shooting School for some clay target shooting, enjoy a relaxing massage at the spa, and finish with fine dining at dinner? There are virtually endless activities for every age. Pilates, offshore fishing, salt marsh kayaking, a sailing school, archery, birding by golf cart, kiteboarding, horseback riding on the beach...you think of it and it most likely exists here.

Who is Best Suited at The Cloister at Sea Island

Everyone loves it here! It is perfect luxury resort property for a family reunion or multi-generational celebration. Since 1928 visitors have been heading to Sea Island, so they have had practice sharing hospitality over the generations. Made up of three hotel areas, accommodations can be perfectly paired for families or couples. Families with young children particularly love the Beach Club accommodations, with their proximity to the family pool and its 20' water slide. And the Suites in these accommodations also have kitchenettes, which are particularly helpful with babies or toddlers in tow.

Tips When Visiting The Cloister at Sea Island

Make sure you head off the beach in time for tea and cookies in the lobby each afternoon. And if you are not too full after dinner, meander over to the old fashioned Ice Cream & Candy Shop for their famous gold brick sundae with its chocolate topping that hardens over the ice cream.
